The global scope, “Hope and Hopelessness Questionnaire”, revealed the results reflected in the changing global economic balances showed that the effect of the mood of people. The survey involved 53 countries and the differences of the mood of the people were revealed. According to the survey, the France is the most pessimistic country in the world.  The French newspaper “Le Parisien” had written an article about the shocking news saying; “Shock, corruption and poverty, despite this, Nigerians looks hopeful to the future than we do!”

While Afghans scored 24 points, Europe and the United States managed to fall below zero with their pessimistic vision. United Kingdom scored -44 while France was at -58. Unlike the Europeans, Iraq and Bangladesh appears to be happier than all the western countries.

Most happy people;
Nigeria
Vietnam
Brazil and Ghana
China and India
Kosovo

Those most unhappy;
France
Iceland
Romania
Serbia
United Kingdom

Another survey that was published on 1st of June 2010 by Ipsos Social Research Institute also showed that despite poor infrastructure, poverty, chaos, bribe and corruption, Indians are still the happiest people living on this earth. In fact they came as fourth in the list after the Netherlands, Canada and Australia based on satisfaction where they live.

It’s very interesting how India, managed to rank much better than countries whose average per capita income is probably 10 or 20 times more than Indians. While the Dutch ranked as the happiest people with 85%, people in South Korea are least happy with just 35% according to their job prospects, infrastructure, level of cleanliness and public transport.

How happy is your country?

    Good Article but the surveys mentioned in the post are lacking base data.

    Though Indians ranked higher but truth is something else. Whenever you land on any Indian Airport you find faces with artificial & professional smiles but as soon as you move forward towards your picker/drive you start getting the feeling of stress on the people faces & suddenly you find that evry person you meet or see shows stress & irritration signs & is frustrated with some or the other reason.

    You start feeling the insecurity when you travel & drive on road as so start getting laud raged comments & voices all round you.

    The other way round!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    As far as my knowledge of sociology is concerned Indians are most unhappy people on earth when they live in India & as soon as they leave their country & fly to their other foreign destinations around the world even to countries which are worse than India in terms of everything are great for Indians & as they arrived there; they become most happier people in the world.

    • Its a strange issue and I agree with you about this for I myself experienced exactly what you wrote here. But many people who has visited India, has mentioned that though many Indians they met live in poverty and work the whole day, they are still happy? There is even a documentary made by an englishman (i dont remember the name right now) who visited factories in Mumbai where many Indians work the whole day and earn almost nothing, he said that they were still happy with what they had. But one thing I love about India personally, that is the democracy!

    Endearing Mr. Hatef

    Greetings to you

    I am elated & was encouraged to read this article which reflected that all that glitters is not always gold, as our countrymen are blinded by the flashes of western growth & have a myth that the people residing there are blessed & blissful .

    Here are my inputs for all

    Hope Sustains life & Happiness is nothing but the state of mind

    That’s a Weird & wonderful Data related to India & let me share an anecdote
    With you which goes like this

    “Once an Atheist Englishman came to India with the intention of exploring this land of snake charmers, spiritualism & enigma behind all the so called Indian beliefs.

    And After staying in India for Three months, when he went back to His native land, there came a volte- face in his attitude & demeanor & he became an absolute Theist in his beliefs.

    Seeing this Sea –change in deportment, Once his neighbor dared to ask him about this Metamorphosis in him, to which he answered that after visiting India I realized that there is existence of some supreme power Or God as despite such corruption, Unemployment, Manipulation, Baseless politics & politicians, poverty, Lack of Basic Amenities, Still this country is growing & running, so this possibly only God can do it, as for humans to survive & grow with such a challenge this is not possible.”

    So, we need not to look at people those who have private charters or exorbitantly priced Cars but look at the people those who do not have Legs to walk even

    Be optimistic & live happy should be the mantra

    Cheers!

    To our Success

    • Dear Naviin Aahujja. Thank you for such a knowledgeable and interesting information. I am grateful that you take the time to exchange knowledge and thoughts and I like what you wrote about the atheist Englishman. Its quite true that not everything that glitters to the eye gives happiness, and that even those with small quantities can be more happy than the richest man. We should be grateful for each day that we breath and remember that there is others who might be in worse condition.
      Wish you the best of success and hope to keep in touch! Best regards Hatef Mokhtar
